THE BURDEN AGAINST THE VALLEY OF VISION (JERUSALEM)

Isaiah 22: 1-25

I. A Day of  Trouble (vs. 1-7)

a. The reference to the “Valley of Vision” portrays Jerusalem at her point of judgment.  What is Jerusalem facing?

 

b. What seems out of place for a city besieged and on the brink of attack?

 

c. What would become of the inhabitants of Jerusalem?

 

d. What does it say when the rulers of a city attempt to flee together while the people are left behind?

 

e. What is Isaiah /  God’s response to the plundering of daughter of His people?

f. The extent of the forces arrayed against Jerusalem will be at Whose direction?

II. He Removed the Protection of Judah (vs. 8-14)

a. Who removed the protection of Judah?

 

b. In what were the people trusting rather than God?

 

c. What telling statement in verse 11 sums up the nature of the spiritual problem?

d. Instead of repentance and mourning what were the people engaged in?

e. What was God’s response to the arrogance of Judah?

II. Shebna  (vs. 15-25)

a. What did Shebna do that had him replaced?

 

b. Eliakim replaced Shebna and acted as a father to Jerusalem and Judah but was he able to carry the burden of Judah alone?

 

c. What is symbolized by Eliakim the “peg fastened in a secure place” being removed?

 

Application:  What happens when we trust in things rather than God?  Can a person get to a place where (vs. 14) “there is no atonement for you”? (Luke 12:10)
