THE BURDEN AGAINST EGYPT

Isaiah 19: 1-25

  I. The Spirit of Egypt Will Fail (vs. 1-10)

a. Although the Assyrian invasion is in view along with the other “burdens” detailed in Isaiah…Who is announced coming into Egypt?

b. What is the significance of the idols tottering at His presence?

c. What will happen when God’s judgment falls on Egypt?

d. Will the devastation be solely attributed to Assyria?

e. What happens to the Egyptian economy?

II.  A Perverse Spirit In Her Midst(vs. 11-17)

a. What will happen to the “wise counselors” in Egypt?

b. The pride and strength of Egypt will fail because of what spirit in Egypt?

c. Where does this perverse spirit come from?

III. A Brighter Future  (vs.. 18-25)

a. Like chapter 18, this passage also offers a distant hope.  How do we know this has not yet come to pass?

b. Who will the alter and pillar be for in the midst of Egypt?

c. What will happen when the Lord strikes Egypt in “that day?”

d. What will the national landscape look like at this time and how will God view these surrounding nations?

Application:  Idolatry in any form will fall under judgment.  The counsel of men is proven foolish when God is not in it.  Are these things still problematic in our day and age?   Has God changed His mind about how He will deal with these things?
