Dear Church Family,
Although it is hard to believe, 2009 is now history and we begin a new year. One cannot help but look back over the events of the past year and contemplate the joys and sorrows, the victories and setbacks, plans made …some complete and some yet incomplete. The past year was full of events, activities, and new opportunities. We rejoiced in prayers answered. We grieved the loss of loved ones and yet through it all we were compelled to confess that “God is good all the time”.
As we look to the New Year we may try to guess what things will happen. How will God work in me, in my family, or in His church? Linda shared the following poem with me several years ago and I think it is a good way for Fairview Loop to start the New Year.
This Is My Church
(Author: anonymous)
It is composed of people like me.
We make it what it is.
I want it to be a church that is a
lamp to the path of pilgrims,
leading them to goodness, truth and beauty.
…It will be, if I am.
It will be friendly,
…if I am.
Its pews will be filled,
…if I help to fill them.
It will do a great work,
…if I work.
It will make generous gifts to many causes,
…if I am a generous giver.
It will bring other people into the worship and fellowship,
…if I bring them in.
Therefore, with the help of God, I shall dedicate myself to the
task of being all of the things that I want my church to be.
